Why Eat A Whole Food Plant-Based Diet?
Whole food describes natural foods that are not heavily processed. That means whole, unrefined, or minimally refined ingredients.
Plant-based means food that comes from plants and doesnt contain animal ingredients such as meat, milk, eggs, or honey.
Benefits of eating plant-based whole food:
- Reducing your risk of developing cancer. A 15-year-long study followed 60,000 British men and women, of which over 18,000 were vegetarians and 2,246 vegans. They found that overall cancer incidence (compared to meat-eaters) was 11 percent lower in vegetarians and 19% lower in vegans.
- Arthritis: Vegan diets seem particularly effective at reducing symptoms of arthritis such as pain, joint swelling, and morning stiffnessKidney function:
- Diabetics who substitute meat for plant protein can reduce their risk of poor kidney function
- Alzheimer’s disease: Observational studies show that aspects of the vegan diet may help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease
- Easy weight management: People who eat a plant-based diet tend to be leaner than those who dont, and the diet makes it easy to lose weight and keep it offwithout counting calories.
- Disease prevention: Whole-food, plant-based eating can prevent, halt, or even reverse chronic diseases, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
- A lighter environmental footprint: A plant-based diet places much less environmental stress.
- Animals are not harmed and can live how they choose instead of being bred for our consumption.
- Quicker recovery time. When eating a plant-based diet, vegans eating a whole-food diet tend to be less sore after workouts because they experience fewer toxins from their food.
- Increased energy, better sleep, and overall health. When we eat a whole food plant-based diet our bodies can get more vitamins and minerals because we consume 100% plants. When we feed ourselves whole plant food, we sleep better and have increased energy throughout the day.
